Now, let’s talk interview questions! Many people think the interview process begins when someone says “tell me about yourself”, but the truth is that you probably should begin by getting familiar with the interviewer. Why? When you know about the type of person and culture at the place where you’ll be interviewing, you can better understand what that culture looks like and the type of questions they are likely going to ask. Remember, we are talking about potential employers and they are trying to hire the best candidate to suit their needs and desires. It’s in their best interest that you show genuine interest in them. Be honest, but not too personal and don’t try to put too much pressure on you in order to get hired. There are numerous techniques used in interviews: One technique is having open-ended (or even hypothetical) questions. Another technique is known as breaking down questions into smaller tasks or problems. A third technique is asking follow-up questions that follow up on a previous answer or question to see if there are any changes to see if there is anything else the applicant might have missed or forgotten to include. Some interviews may involve multiple versions of questions, some may require written responses and others could be phone interviews where all the applicants are given written instructions and materials on the company. All in all – learn what questions you’ll be asked and research your competitors, as well as your industry. Doing so will give you insight into whether or not your answers will be accepted or rejected. Take notes of important points you hear the questioner asking – these are known as “gaps in knowledge” during a typical interview. After that, come up with effective strategies for your next response.
